I grew up in Middletown, Ohio as a very active child. My parents were tri-athletes and encouraged my sister and I to exercise daily. I swam competitively throughout grade school and high school. I also enjoyed running, aerobics, and some weight training.
While in college, I injured my left knee twice, tearing meniscus, severing my ACL, and crushing the cartilage under my femur. After 3 of my 5 surgeries, I found myself overweight and out of shape. My left leg was so weak but I knew I had to strengthen the muscles to have less pain. I was 40 pounds overweight and hated my body.
I asked my bodybuilder friend, Dave Uhlman, to help me get ready for a figure competition in 2005. He taught me how to exercise and eat properly. He helped me drop 16% bodyfat in 16 weeks. I was ecstatic! I hadn’t felt this good in at least 4 years! At this point, I was hooked! I quit my job working for a chiropractor and became a personal trainer. I got certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM.) For 4 years, I worked in a gym setting and then 2 years ago started FitJulie's In-Home Personal Training.
Training was now a lifestyle for me, but my knee still hurt every day. I decided to have 2 more surgeries to fix my ACL. It was the best decision I could have made. Now I am pain free most days, which I never thought was possible. Training consistently keeps my leg muscles strong so that my knee joint doesn't take the impact of my movements. I was on crutches for a total of one year if you add all the recovery time. I will never take my body or my health for granted. I now specialize in corrective (rehabilitative) exercises to keep people pain free and healthy.
Helping people change their lives is my passion, and I am so happy to have a job that I love. I still struggle with my nutrition as do most people, but I will never give up. Every day that you eat right, you are one step closer to your goal.
I am currently an Apex Bodybugg FitPro and also working on my ISSA SPN Certification! Thank you so much for visiting my site!
