Charla Burgess - Mother, Wife, Future Figure Competitor!

Julie,
Thank you for being so awesome and inspiring me to lose almost 30 lbs. I am so happy with the NEW ME and I can’t wait to see how much more I will accomplish with your help. You are by far the best trainer I have ever had and you know that there have been a few. You have helped me get where I need to be and you understand how hard it is to get there. You sympathize with me and understand the everyday struggles but at the same time you encourage me not to give up. So again I just want to thank you for your time and for being the Best.

I’ve been working at Q102 for 9 years and have worked out with a number of personal trainers. Julie Comer is the best personal trainer I’ve ever had the pleasure to work out with. She actually cares about training me personally and I look forward to working out with her. She makes working out fun and the hour actually flies by. Working out with Julie has given me more energy, a higher quality of life, and the motivation to commit to a healthier lifestyle. Thanks Julie!!! You’re the best!

Julie from Destination Fitness is fabulous! Knowledgeable, personable, motivational and experienced, with personal history that allows her to relate well to her clientele. I’ve engaged in pursuit of personal fitness/wellness for over 30 years, and Julie’s ability to bring a new hint, tip or technique to each session with enthusiasm is always a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend her.

Well, I no longer have New Years’ Resolutions…at least not like I’ve had every year for the past “x” number of years. You know the Big One: “I’m going on a diet as soon as the New Year starts.”
For me, it all started at a luncheon my wife and I were attending. A friend we hadn’t seen in a while (who was looking fabulous) introduced us to Zak Nordyke, owner of Destination Fitness. Nice guy. Young. Fit. Not overly pumped up…just healthy looking. We all got talking and Zak convinced us to let him come by the house and time us on how many push-ups and sit-ups we could do in one minute. (Boy was that embarrassing.) Worse was when he got out the tape measure and the digital weight scale. The truth shall set you free.
Now my family doctor had been telling be that after men hit the big 5-OH, they start to lose bone density, and so I needed to start lifting weights. What fun. He had also told me for the last ten years that I also should “shed a few pounds.” It really hit me when the cholesterol and blood sugar count kept rising every year. I knew it was time to get serious and not wait (weight?) for another New Year to come and go.
Zak did give us hope for redemption and promised that he would send Julie Comer over the following week to get us started. Julie Comer. What a blessing. Julie is one of Destination Fitness’ personal trainers. Get it? A personal trainer that comes to you! No more getting the car warmed up, taking valuable time driving to the gym, hoping you don’t catch whatever the person has who was just on the machine before you got there, etc., etc. Julie shows up when it’s convenient to you. She brings whatever is needed for that day’s workout, helps you buy equipment that you can use between her visits, and she tailors the workout to your age and fitness level. It was never my intention to look like Ahhhrrrrrnnnnollldddd. She makes sure she’s not aggravating any old football injuries (tennis in my case) and always has excellent advice on foods to eat and in what combinations. Julie lives what she teaches. She makes sure your form is exactly right and always brings something new with each visit. One day: yoga moves; the next time: ball squats against the kitchen wall. Sometimes it’s free weights, bands or exercises that I can take on the road and do with a chair in a hotel room.
How’s it going? Last week we were on vacation and took the stairs every time up to our room instead of the elevator. By the end of the week we were flying up the seven flights. Today as I write this, my quads are screaming (in a good way) from squats Julie had me do yesterday on the stairs. It’s incredible how the simplest of exercises can get you back in shape, and how good it feels! What’s great is, you make the workout because you have an appointment and Julie shows up on time. You can’t “skip going to the gym today.” She’s the gym and she’s coming to you!
Sure, I could tell you about the weight both my wife and I have lost; the positive comments we get after just three months of workouts; or, how we’re eating better and are active every day now; and, clothes we haven’t worn in years (now back in style) fit us once again. But what it’s really all about is living a better lifestyle…knowing I’m not going to be a declining health statistic in the years to come. It’s about getting in shape and knowing how to do it the right way. It’s about getting your head around where you want to be and then connecting with the people that can get you there. Zak Nordye and Julie Comer of Destination Fitness are those people.
